Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola said on Saturday that the academic qualifications of President Goodluck Jonathan and his Vice, Namadi Sambo has not reflected in the policies they introduced since they assumed office.
Fashola made the statement at the All Progressives Party (APC) rally held in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
“We need someone who could address our challenges,” he said, as he lamented that the country has failed to progress despite their high academic qualifications.
“We prayed that if we have someone who has degree, he will be able to develop the country. And when the current President a Ph.d holder assumed office, we rejoiced that the country will improve. Rather than implement policies that would improve the standard of living of citizens, we were having regression.
“Also, his Vice-President is an architect but he cannot construct road. But it is sadden that a lawyer is the commissioner for works in Edo State and he has constructed several roads. In Ogun State, the commissioner for works is an architect and he has built several roads.
“So, let’s ask Sambo, the vice president what has he done for the nation since he assumed office. All he (Sambo) could do was to inform the president that people are leaving Lagos because of the State tax regime. And I want everyone to ask the Vice President if the number of vehicles coming into Lagos has reduced,” he added.
Fashola noted that lack of governance experience exhibited by the President and his Vice could also be seen in all the candidates presented by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2015 elections, citing the party’s candidate in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje, as an example.
Akinwunmi Ambode, the governorship candidate of the APC, who spoke earlier, however urged residents of Lagos to vote for him in other to continue the good works his predecessors have started.
“Thank you so much Ikorodu for your monumental support. It is surely because of you that we are here,” he said while giving his speech.
“In the past sixteen years of Democracy, our dear state has worked. The intention we have now is to continue in that tradition; a Lagos that keeps working, a Lagos that has your interests at heart.
“I have consulted with you to know what you want, now is the time to employ my competence, experience, and diligence to achieve these requests that have formed the crust of my programmes. And it is your votes for APC that will make this achievable,” he said.
